Coll Baix
Coll Baix is situated at seven kilometres from Alcúdia and it is the only virgin municipal and public beach. This beach of gravel and coarse-grained sand of a greyish colour has some thistles and marine iris here and there. It is a wide and straight sea inlet that finishes on a spectacular beach, surrounded by some breathtaking steep rocky cliffs and closed by a quite high headland that begins on this sandy area. In the surroundings there is sa Talaia d'Alcúdia o de la Victòria, a 445 metres high defense tower of the 16th century, from where the bays of Alcúdia and Pollença can be seen. Anchoring boats has to be done at a reasonable distance from the coast because the sea is not very deep here. Away from the coastline there is a depth of about five metres, on a sandy and rocky ground. This beach is the first possible shelter between Cap des Pinar and the steep Cap de Menorca. The nearest port facilities are located at Port d'Alcúdia, at 4,8 nautical miles. The accessibility by car is easy until Alcúdia. Here you have to park your car and start a rather complicated walk on tracks and trails, with an estimated duration of about 45 minutes and five kilometres at the end on a dusty trail next to a precipice. This difficult walk is nevertheless worth it, you will enjoy a changing beautiful landscape, with agricultural land, terraces and pine woods and the Mediterranean sea on the majorcan coast. This explains that the beach is not crowded at all. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards’ instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change.
