S'Arenal
S'Arenal is the last stretch of Platja de Palma and it belongs to the municipality of Llucmajor from Torrent des Jueus on. Changing from Palma to Llucmajor can hardly be noticed here, due to the fact of the similar touristic activity and facilities. Nevertheless, the difference is that the buildings of s'Arenal de Llucmajor are taller than the constructions of the area of Palma. The coast has fine sand and gentle slope, so that bathing is easier for little children. The nearest port facilities are located at Club Nàutic s'Arenal. S'Arenal has suffered the destruction of the vegetation of the dune ecosystem which retains the sand and nearly disappeared in 1989. In order to recover it, more than 400.000 tons of sand were introduced again, and the result are the current spectacular dimensions. Parallel to the coast we will find the biggest concentration of hotels in Majorca and one of the most importants of the Mediterranean area. Between 1960 and 1968 the biggest part of the hotels were constructed and at the end of the 20th century the coastline was redesigned, with palms along a new promenade and road traffic was limited. This beach is the best example for mass tourism at Majorca, with a very high occupancy and the gathering of thousands of tourists and residents. The accessibility by car is easy. There is no parking area for private cars next to the coast. This is why we recommend the public transport, the nearest bus stop is located at 50 metres. Information about this beach may change.
